Jessica Jacobsen, Student Intern Therapist

Jessica doesn't subscribe to the idea that everything happens for a reason, and promises not to insist clients find a silver lining or meaning in experiences that are simply painful, unfair, or life-changing in ways we never would have chosen. What she does believe is that our darkest experiences do not have to define the rest of our story.

Jessica will hold space for her clients as their experiences are unpacked. Although the past is unchangeable, she can help clients begin to navigate where they are.

Jessica's approach is warm, relational, and collaborative with a little laughter sprinkled in, because while healing is serious business, sometimes laughter happens in the therapy room, too. Being able to both laugh and cry at life's audacity is sometimes its own kind of therapy!

Coming to therapy shouldn't feel like sitting in the principal's office, so Jessica provides a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where clients can explore what has happened, get curious about what hurts, and understand how it has shaped the way they see themselves, relate to others, and move through the world.

Jessica is pursuing her master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Missouri Baptist University. With a particular passion for attachment, trauma, grief, and understanding what may be happening beneath the surface of people's emotions and behaviors, she draws from attachment-based and psychodynamic perspectives, CBT, and other approaches based on the individual needs of each client.

When working with children, Jessica believes behavior often tells a story when a child does not yet have the words to tell it themselves. She values working alongside children and their families to better understand that story, strengthen connection, and help children and families feel safe, seen, and understood.
